OSPRI is accepting expressions of interest for a seasonal Field Technician role based in Taupo.
This is a fixed-term, full-time position for 7 months, from November 2025 to May 2026.OSPRI is the livestock sector's integrated disease management and traceability agency and a critical part of New Zealand's agribusiness and food economy.
OSPRI currently manages three major national programmes : TBfree (directed at the eradication of bovine tuberculosis), M.bovisfree (directed at attaining freedom from M.bovis) and NAIT (National Animal Identification and Tracing System).
With OSPRI now leading the delivery of on-farm testing, we're looking for a seasonal Field Technician to join our North Island team, based in Taupo.
If you enjoy working outdoors, building connections with farming communities, and making a real impact on New Zealand's biosecurity, this role gives you the opportunity to be hands-on, representing OSPRI out in the field.ResponsibilitiesTravelling across the region and performing testing and sampling on cattle.Contacting farmers to book in upcoming tests.Accurately read and identify TB suspect stock and communicate findings on farm.Conducting blood sampling and ensuring samples are handled in line with laboratory protocols.Completing all administrative tasks accurately and efficiently.What we're looking forAn industry qualification in agriculture, veterinary science, or a related discipline is desirable.Relevant farming experience, including stock handling and stock behaviour.Experience liaising with farmers.Knowledge of relevant farming practices.Strong problem-solving skills.The ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider team.Excellent communication (written and verbal) and relationship-building skills, with the ability to convey information to various audiences.Computer literacy, with proficiency in using work-based technology systems and Microsoft applications.Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision.Comfortable with frequent travel and working in a variety of on-farm situations.A full driver's licence.How to applyTo apply, please email
