    About the Role

    Health New Zealand Taranaki are looking for an inspiring Midwife Educator to join their team.

    The position is permanent part time, 0.6FTE (24 hours per week).

    The Midwife Educator coordinates and delivers midwifery education to enable midwives and nurses to meet council and Te Whatu Ora requirements as well as providing opportunities for professional development.

    This role will work closely with the Midwife Clinical Coach to act as a resource for those undertaking undergraduate and postgraduate study.

    About the Team / Service / Location

    In 2026 the maternity unit at Taranaki Base Hospital will move into a purpose-built new unit.

    This unit includes a purpose-built midwife led birthing facility.

    As Midwife Educator you would be part of the leadership team will be overseeing and facilitating the transition between the two buildings.

    This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the changing shape maternity care, provided to our community.

    Te Whatu Ora Taranaki maternity service comprises of a secondary maternity unit located in Taranaki Base Hospital in New Plymouth, and a primary birthing unit locate in Hawera.

    At the secondary unit there is a combined birthing suite and antenatal ward, and a separate postnatal ward.

    There are six birthing rooms, a birthing pool, seven antenatal beds, and 16 postnatal beds.

    The primary birthing unit has one birthing room with pool and four postnatal beds.

    Te Whatu Ora Taranakis neonatal unit has level 2A accreditation with 6 cots and 2 intensive care cots to provide care for babies from 28 weeks gestation

    About you

    To be a successful in this role you will :

    Have a strong focus on empowering midwives to work to the top of their scope of practice

    Promote continued development of midwifery knowledge and skills.

    Have a high level of clinical skills in maternity care.

    Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate research-based midwifery knowledge / advice to multidisciplinary teams.

    Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    Hold current Annual Practicing Certificate.

    Preferably have a minimum of 5 year post graduate Midwifery experience.

    Evidence of continuing education.

    Have a commitment to quality assurance and accreditation principles.

    Have, or be willing to work towards, Adult Education and teaching qualifications

    Computer, research knowledge and writing skills
