About the role : Telecommunication Technician
We are currently seeking experienced technicians to take on leadership roles, as well as entry-level technicians who are eager to learn and grow. You will be a crucial part of our operations team, ensuring our clients' network infrastructure performs to the highest standard. Wage Rate : $ 28.00 to $ 32.00 per Hour
No of Hours per week : 32- 35
Days Required : Monday to Saturday
Duties and Responsibilities :
Fibre Installation :
5. Installing fibre optic cables from network distribution point.
6. Running and securing cables, both underground and aerial, from boundary points or poles to properties.
7. Performing tests on fibre optic cables (multi-mode and single-mode) to ensure they meet certification standards.
8. Diagnosing and troubleshooting issues in fibre optic connections, cabling or equipment.
9. Use specialised testing equipment (e.g., OTDR, Light Source / Power Meter, VFL) to test network performance and integrity.
Networking Setup :
10. Setting up and configuring customer LANs and other networking equipment according to industry specifications.
11. Connecting fibre optic cables to network devices such as routers. modems and ONTs (Optical Network terminals).
12. Conducting site surveys to assess installation requirements and documenting findings.
13. Preparing reports on network configurations, user requirements and completed work.
14. Splicing, terminating and connecting fibre optic cables to maintain continuity and quality.
15. maintaining and repairing existing fibre installations and equipment as required.
Job Requirements :
1. Minimum of one year of relevant work experience or a relevant (Information Technology or telecommunications) tertiary qualification
2. Valid Driver's Licence- Should drive a vehicle without a supervisor.
3. Good Communication skills.
4. Familiarity with working in a safety-critical environment and a strong commitment to safe work practices.
5. Practical knowledge of fibre splicing, termination and testing.
6. Well groomed, attention to detail.
