Job description

HEB Construction Graduate Programme 2025 - Structural Graduate Engineers

When you join HEB Construction, great opportunities open up for you. By joining our world leading team, you'll be working on a diverse range of projects, including some of NZ's biggest infrastructure projects and maintenance programmes.

People are at the heart of how we build and maintain bridges, roads, tunnels, walkways and ports - all the infrastructure that helps us connect and make our environment a better place to live.

Graduate Intake

Applications are now open for our Structures 2025 Graduate Programme intake, starting December 2024 / January 2025.

You will be completing the final year of your bachelor's degree in a Civil Engineering or Construction-related discipline majoring in Structural Engineering. You'll be interested in constructing bridges, wharfs, ports, and reservoirs and have a strong understanding and passion for civil contracting and the environment we operate it. You will need to move around our sites and projects to gain breadth and depth of experience, so being flexible around your work location is a must.

Our structures team work on some of the best projects in New Zealand, below is a small snapshot of what we are working on :

  • O Mahurangi Penlink - with a 535-metre long, 45-metre tall extradosed bridge, this will be the first of it's kind in New Zealand!
  • Moa Point Wellington Sludge Minimisation Factory - We're building a world-class facility, the first of its type in Aotearoa, to reduce the amount of sewage sludge created through our wastewater treatment process and turn it into a safe, reusable product. This will allow us to reduce our carbon emissions and waste to landfill.
  • Te Ara o Te Ata - Mt Messenger Bypass -  Two bridges and a tunnel - A 30metre single span 'Super T', the deck for this 30m bridge will sit on T-shaped concrete piers fixed into abutments at each end & a 125metre bridge will be a steel box girder structure, with a concrete deck sitting on raked steel pier supports that span the Mimi wetland. The use of these angled piers means we can keep the bridge foundations out of the Mimi stream. A temporary staging bridge will be put in place to enable construction.
  • Te Whau Pathway Auckland - A shared pathway approximately 7.1km of 4m wide boardwalk, and 3.3km of 3m wide on grade concrete path. It will be Auckland's only off-road route to connect the Waitematā and Manukau harbours.

The Programme

We run a two-year programme, where you get the fantastic opportunity to gain experience within the Structures Division as a Graduate Engineer with a dedicated team to support you through your journey.

As a graduate at HEB Construction, you'll join our two-year programme, having the opportunity to grow and develop as an engineering professional. The hands-on practical experience you gain working with us is complemented by professional development opportunities such as support with your ENZ accreditation, internal and external training, and a dedicated mentor from the business to help you navigate your first steps into a successful career in Civil Construction.
