About the Role

Applications are invited for the one year Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology commencing March 2025 at Waikato Hospital, New Zealand.

This post offers a unique opportunity for training in all aspects of interventional coronary work.

The Fellow will work with nine interventional cardiologists at Waikato Hospital learning all aspects of coronary angioplasty skills; physiology assessments (FFR, DPR); coronary imaging (IVUS, OCT); rotational, orbital atherectomy; CHIP; CTO; and ultrasound guided vascular access.

The candidate is likely to perform over 400 angioplasty cases during their year.

The successful candidate will also be expected to take part in one outpatient clinics / week; be involved in teaching of junior staff and participate in the after-hours on-call roster for general cardiology registrars.

The cardiology department has state-of the-art facilities, has an active research unit

We are based in Hamilton, the third largest city in the North Island.

About you

Candidates will have completed their advanced training in Cardiology (FRACP, CCT (UK) or equivalent), and will have been in Specialist Training in Cardiology for a minimum of three years.

Full competency at diagnostic angiography is a pre-requisite, and some 1st operator experience in PCI is desirable.

The candidate will require full or temporary registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand for 12 months.
