About the Role
As a Reporter with some experience and loads of enthusiasm, you will play a key role in connecting with our community, researching local stories, and delivering accurate and compelling content reflecting the heart of our people and region.
What we’re looking for
This is a great opportunity for a Reporter who is looking to develop their reporting skills and enjoys being out and about in the community. The environment is fast paced with the opportunity to cover breaking news, community events along with in-depth feature articles or stories.
Our small and mighty team has a focus on delivering high-quality work, this means effective communication and strong connections are essential to our success. Your natural ability to get along with others and jump in where needed will be your star quality.
You’ll have the natural ability to connect with diverse communities and build relationships that deepen your storytelling. You’ll know your way around camera equipment in order to capture high-quality images that reflect the story being told.
With where we are on our storytelling journey, we need someone with several years’ experience in either journalism or reporting, along with the right attitude as we grow our precious Wairoa Star. You need to have a full NZ Driver’s License, as this role will be out and about in the community.

We are looking for a full-time role and a part time role, or there is the option of two part time roles depending on what might work for you. Due to the community nature of our paper, at least one of the roles would need to be based in Wairoa or the wider Hawkes Bay region. We can offer hybrid and flexible working arrangements but that on the ground presence and connection with the community is crucial
Why join us?
