Kōrero mō te tūranga (about the role)

We’re looking for a multi-talented professional to add more good energy to our Firstlight Network Control Room in Tairāwhiti Gisborne.  In this interesting and varied role you will work across the Control Room team covering data collection and reporting, continuous improvement, emergency management and take on the role of Control Room Operator.

This role is about understanding the operation and looking to the future. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying and implementing data-driven solutions that enhance operational efficiency and improve customer satisfaction.  As our business and industry evolves, so will this role.

The accountabilities are varied, and include :

  • Data Collection, Processing and Reporting :   Completing customer minutes by checking Control Room permitting documentation and verifying customers impacted by outages are accurate (currently a paper-based process). Work with relevant team to manage and develop PowerBI and other business intelligence tools as they relate to Firstlight Network team, including creating dashboards and other means of communicating insights to the team and business.
  • Continuous improvement :  Process mapping and documenting of current processes, project support across both Clarus and Firstlight Network projects.
  • Have input into the develop and implementation of systems and procedures, (in accordance with Network Control Procedures Manual, SM-EI Rules and other applicable industry best practice guides / regulations), to manage the operation and switching of the network when the Control Room is both manned and unmanned.
  • Emergency Management :  Coordination of emergency exercises to align with Clarus schedule.
  • Control Room Operator : Once deemed competent, act as a Control Room Operator managing the day-to-day operation / control of the Network, (including Transmission, Distribution and Generation assets) as part of a team roster.

Qualifications

Mōu  (about you)

As well as being someone who brings passion and good energy to everything you do, you will ideally have electricity sector experience and a relevant qualification.

You'll need to be an exceptional communicator, able to work across different stakeholder groups, and be driven to develop and grow others (there is potential for future people leadership opportunities).

You'll love the detail; expect to analyse and provide insights on customer minutes and other Control Room related data, supported by solid report writing skills for internal and external use.   It would be ideal if you had PowerBI experience to support this.
