    About the Northern Region Psychiatry ProgrammeThe Northern Region Psychiatry Training Programme I Hinengaro Akonga o Tokerau is the largest psychiatry training programme of its kind in New Zealand and ranks among the top programmes in Australia and New Zealand.

    It serves as an exceptional springboard for a successful career in psychiatry.

    Many of our graduates secure local employment post-fellowship, ensuring a smooth transition into their professional careers.Led by a team who have trained both locally and internationally within the past decade, our programme offers a comprehensive and diverse range of training experiences found nowhere else in Australasia.

    We understand the challenges trainees may face in vocational training and are committed to addressing both trainees educational and individual needs.

    We invest considerable time and resources to provide a well-rounded and supportive training experience.Trainees are guided and supported by the Director of Training and local Training Facilitator throughout each rotation, in addition to their Consultant Psychiatrist Supervisor.

      Why Train as a Psychiatry Registrar in the Auckland RegionWe have a wide variety of unique training experiences rarely seen elsewhere in Australia and New Zealand : o Cultural immersion : Maori mental health and Pacific Island mental health rotations.

      o Specialised areas : Paediatric consultation liaison psychiatry, maternal mental health, forensic psychiatry, intellectual disability, medical administration and clinical leadership rotations.

      o Academic opportunities : An academic psychiatry position working in close collaboration with the University of Auckland.

      Comprehensive training programme with a well-established training scheme : Be part of a year cohort who meet weekly face-to-face for teaching, allowing you to build strong relationships early in your career with your peers and passionate academics dedicated to teaching the art of psychiatry.o Mentoring programme and excellent supervisor support.

      o Weekly teaching during the university semester (protected day-release teaching)

      o A dedicated cultural teaching day open to all stages of training, provides invaluable learning on Pasifika, Asian and Maori Mental Health.

      o Advanced training in any of the seven RANZCP sub-speciality Certificates.

      o Well managed and funded Psychotherapy Written Case resources.

      o Strong RANZCP examination pass rates.

      About youThere is no need to have completed a Psychiatric run previously; all you need is an interest and a passion for psychiatry.You need eligibility for general scope registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.Candidates will be ranked for interview eligibility based on their cover letter and CV.Please submit a cover letter and CV outlining why you wish to pursue Psychiatry training, and what attracts you to training in the Auckland programme.
