Overview

As an Interactive Designer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping storytelling at Stuff. Working closely with our editorial, growth and product teams, you’ll design and deliver innovative, data-driven storytelling projects and interactive visualisations that inform, engage and empower our audiences. This fixed-term role is central to Stuff’s coverage of major national events, including the 2026 New Zealand election. You’ll combine the rigour of reporting with data, coding and AI tools to create journalism that’s both compelling and credible.

What You’ll Do

• Use data, code and AI to uncover, analyse and present unique stories that connect with audiences.
• Design and deliver interactive, data-led visualisations and projects that bring complex information to life.
• Collaborate with reporters, editors, designers and developers to ensure accuracy, transparency and impact.
• Build tools, workflows and systems that support scalable, sustainable data journalism.
• Champion the ethical use of data and AI within the newsroom, sharing knowledge and mentoring colleagues.
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative newsroom culture where innovation and integrity thrive.
