Community Engagement Manager - Northern Region

Are you an outstanding people leader and manager, with significant senior leadership experience in a community engagement related role, along with significant links into your community and are you able to demonstrate your capability to leverage those links?

This role will be required to lead the Northern regional Community Engagement team, with staff based in both Tāmaki Makaurau and Te Tai Tokerau. The role supporting the building and maintaining of authentic relationships and effective engagement activity in communities with lower rates of participation in democracy - ensuring that efforts consider both the Electoral Commission's Poutokomanawa - our values and our strategic priorities and objectives.

It is essential that you have firm understanding of engagement best practice, applying your extensive community engagement and relationship management experience to build engagement practice and support the capacity of our team to engage with communities and priority partners. This role will be required to drive regional engagement through both evidence informed design and community collaboration that builds trust and confidence.

The salary for this role is $127-$141k

As part of the Strategic Engagement & Partnerships leadership team, the key responsibilities for the role include :

  • Leading and developing your regional team to deliver outstanding engagement and educational activities alongside our community partners.
  • Providing engagement expertise to initiatives and programmes ensuring these are delivered according to engagement best practice model(s).
  • Planning, managing and reporting on the implementation of the Commission's engagement strategies, initiatives, and goals in consultation with the Director Strategic Engagement & Partnerships and broader Operations group.
  • Developing and implementing national and localised plans for the area of responsibility.
  • Maintaining strategic partnerships and relationships with external parties in support of the wider engagement objectives.

To be successful in this role you need the following :

  • Significant people leadership experience at a senior level
  • Ability to build knowledge of community and build strategic / influential networks.
  • Ability to take initiative combined with sound judgement.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Professional and results-oriented approach with good business and customer focus.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective internal and external working relationships.
