Military Style Academy - Team Leader Operations Rostered Shifts, Palmerston North
Following the Military Style Academy (MSA) Pilot, Oranga Tamariki is well advanced in planning what future versions of the MSA may look like and is looking to deliver the programme again in 2026.
The MSA is a kaupapa -driven, military-style residential programme for serious and persistent youth offenders and will provide an evidence-based, trauma-informed, alternative pathway for youth offenders to help them thrive within their whānau and communities .
Working in partnership with mana whenua and other youth focused providers, the programme is intended to bring hope, healing, and sustained change.

The T eam Leader Operations is an integral part of the leadership team. You will lead a team that is passionate about positively influencing the pathway and journey a rangatahi is travelling on. You will provide unwavering, supportive team management and leadership whilstensuringthe safety and security of everyone in the residence is always maintained Responsibilities for the role includebut not limited to :
Responsible for ensuring the effective coordination and timely delivery of day-to-day programmes and activities.
Modelling and mentoring inspirational and motivational behaviours in both kaimahi and teenagers
Responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the Youth Care Workers and teenagers
Responding to and safely managing incidents as they arise during the course.
An understanding and / or experience of working within an LSV / MAC / Military / Personal Training Instructor qualified or other structured learning environment, although this is not essential.
Position reports to the MSA Associate Director 2IC
Looking to fill 3 x Team Leader Operation p ositions, these roles wi ll be on a ro tating ro ster which consists of AM shift s (0615- 245pm) and PM shift s (2 : 15pm- 10 : 45pm) . S hifts will cover Monday to Sunday therefore you will need to be flexible to work all days set in the roster pattern

A recognised qualification or studies / papers completed in fields such as psychology, education, social work, nursing, management, business administration, sport & recreation management, or other related fields
Previous experience working with rangatahi
Previous resource management experience and demonstrated capability in effectively managing a shift or rostered environment
Proven experience in managing teams and staff development
Technically savvy - high degree of working knowledge in the use of a wide range of technology
Advanced planning and organisational skills
Strong relationship management skills and the ability to successfully engage with a wide range of stakeholders
Highly effective communicator and strong interpersonal skills
Demonstrated empathy for working with children
