S&T Hot Cell Technician

Overview

Our Licensed Nuclear Facilities Branch is looking for S&T Hot Cell Technicians! Can you see yourself in a role where you will be operating specialized equipment necessary for Post Irradiation Examination (PIE) and Metallographic examination of materials? If so, apply today!

What will you be doing

• Using master-slave manipulators and operating in-cell equipment, including hand tools, power tools, measurement devices and process equipment.
• Performing radioactive material flask handling and transferring operations and performing routine maintenance on on-site transfer flasks.
• Performing all operations of Hot Cells within the limits imposed by the Facility Authorization and as defined in other operations documentation.
• Assisting in providing technical support for maintenance of all hot cell systems.
• Responsible for safely, properly, and efficiently operating all in-cell and out-of-cell PIE equipment.
• To be familiar with the appropriate methods and precautions required for handling radioactive materials.
• Carrying out or assisting in the design, construction, repair, testing, evaluation and operational development of specialized PIE equipment.
• Cross-training in several processes competently.
• Preparing records, procedures, memoranda and reports using Personal Computers.
• Performing other related duties appropriate to the assigned level.
• Carrying out other operational duties as required.

What we are looking for

Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, such as a specialization in metallography, materials sciences, material testing, engineering, or related discipline or equivalent formal education OR

One (1) to three (3) years of pertinent technological experience is considered an asset.

General knowledge of metallurgy, materials degradation phenomena, and failure analysis.

Level 2 Secret with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and / or the United Kingdom . CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions

Working with hands in the hot cell Facility.

Working in moderate radiation hazard environments where personal protective equipment is required.

Location will be in CNL’s controlled area (radiation training provided). Must be able to use a respirator; frequent monitoring is necessary; security checkpoints are part of daily routine; daily commute by foot from the parking lot to the work area is required.
