The Electronic Equipment Trades Worker (Kitchen Hardware Technician) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial kitchen and catering equipment. The role ensures all electrical and electronic appliances operate safely and efficiently across cafés, restaurants, and catering facilities.
This position requires hands-on technical skill, sound electrical knowledge, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high service and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Install, service, and repair commercial kitchen appliances including ovens, dishwashers, fryers, refrigerators, mixers, and coffee machines.
Diagnose faults in electrical and electronic systems using meters, schematics, and technical manuals.
Replace or repair defective parts such as thermostats, motors, elements, control boards, and sensors.
Calibrate and test appliances to ensure correct temperature, timing, and performance standards.
Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance to minimise downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
Install wiring and controllers in accordance with electrical and safety requirements.
Maintain accurate service logs, equipment histories, and parts usage records.
Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers for parts ordering, warranty issues, or advanced repairs.
Provide guidance to junior staff on safe handling, care, and operation of kitchen equipment.
Follow all workplace health, safety, and food-safety requirements during service work.
Skills and Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of proven experience in commercial kitchen, electrical, or electronic equipment servicing.
Strong ability to interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and circuit layouts.
Skilled in using diagnostic tools and performing component-level repairs.
Good understanding of electrical safety principles and mechanical systems.
Capable of independent field work with minimal supervision.
Excellent problem-solving, time-management, and communication skills.
Familiar with equipment from brands such as Rational, Hobart, Blue Seal, La Marzocco, and Wega.
Valid New Zealand driver’s licence and eligibility to work in New Zealand.
