Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

We’relooking for a permanent full time experienced developmental paediatrician tojoin our dynamic and supportive team at Hutt Hospital.

Hutthospital serves a population of 160,000 in a geographically dense multi-ethnicand vibrant community. The region is rich in outdoor recreation opportunitieswith rivers, coast and mountains at our doorstep and excellent mountain bikingand hiking within easy reach. The city is 15 minutes from the capital and allthe cultural delights it offers. The department supports maintaining a healthy work life balance.

Youwill be part of the wider Paediatric team in which there is an excellent teamethos and opportunities for peer review. A core aspect of this role isproviding child and whānau centred MDT developmental assessments andcaring for children with complex developmental needs.

Youwill work with a collaborative interagency approach to providing holistic care.You will supervise and teach junior medical staff and medical students andprovide specialist developmental paediatrics advice to general paediatriciansand other stakeholders.

Therewill be opportunities to participate in child protection work and othercommunity paediatric activities.

Thedepartment would be happy to discuss options for you taking part in the generalpaediatric on call roster if this suits the applicant.

Mōtō mātou rōpū – About our team

The Hutt Paediatric Department provide inpatient and outpatient care for children and young people up to 16 years including a level 2 neonatal care unit. The general and developmental paediatricians enjoy close working relationships and have good connections to our local child and youth adolescent mental health services. There is a weekly interagency meetings which provides a strong links to other services including Oranga Tamarki, disability services, Ministry of Education and Resource Teachers of Behaviour and Learning.

The wider paediatric team is made up of 7 general paediatric consultants, 2 part time developmental paediatricians, 2 part time adolescent physicians and a paediatric rheumatologist. There are 12 junior doctors including a community child health fellow. The service is accredited for 2 years of paediatric basic training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. We have an established program of regular departmental educational and peer review opportunities and there is a wide range of local and visiting sub-specialty services. We enjoy close working relationships with Wellington paediatric and tertiary neonatal colleagues.

Moū – About you

  • Vocationally registered in Paediatrics with the Medical Council of New Zealand ()
  • FACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
