THE OPPORTUNITY :
We are seeking a highly strategic Group Commercial Manager to join our team in Newmarket, Auckland.
The Group Commercial Manager supports strategic and operational decision-making by providing valuable commercial advice and analysis. This role is responsible for establishing Commercial Governance Frameworks across the Group, managing risk, enhancing commercial performance, and ensuring contractual compliance. As a key business partner to the CFO, CEO and wider Executive Team, the Group Commercial Manager will help drive business growth through commercial strategy, project feasibility assessments, and contract management. The role also serves as a liaison between the business and external legal counsel.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSBILITIES
- Commercial Strategy & Governance : Develop and implement commercial governance frameworks to enhance decision-making, manage risk, and align strategies with business objectives in collaboration with the Executive Team. Provide strategic advice and oversight across project feasibility, pricing, contracts, and IP management, while supporting revenue growth through commercial opportunity analysis.
- Contract negotiation, management & reporting : Provides strategic, risk, and commercial advice to the CFO and CEO to support development agreement negotiations, while guiding project leaders from pre-contract through to execution and completion. Leads the commercial implementation and management of agreements, ensuring compliance, performance monitoring, and resolution of contractual issues across the Group.
- Risk & project management : Acts as the primary liaison with external legal counsel on all commercial and contractual matters, ensuring consistent risk identification and mitigation across projects. Supports leaders in managing major claims and disputes while overseeing the Group's insurance strategy to safeguard against business risks.
- Performance improvement & strategy : Collaborate with the CFO to develop strategies that boost commercial performance and operational efficiency. Deliver ad-hoc financial and commercial analysis to support key strategic initiatives.
TO BE A GREAT MATCH FOR THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED
A tertiary qualification in law, commerce, finance or accounting.A background in engineering, manufacturing or construction viewed favourably.International / global experience viewed favourably.Extensive experience in reviewing contracts, conducting analysis and reporting.Strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking and risk management.A proven history of leading by example, providing clear expectations and direction.To be a strong positive relationship manager who can successfully navigate their way through difficult situations.The ability to travel as required for the role.ABOUT SCOTT
