Senior Skipper

The Opportunity

This is more than just a skippering role.

As a Senior Skipper, you'll be at the helm of our fleet, setting the standard for seamanship, safety, and service.

You'll also act as a mentor across our team, passing on your knowledge and experience while helping shape the next generation of ferry operators.

Every day is different – from managing timetabled sailings and charters to ensuring our vessels are in survey and crew are trained to the highest standard.

This role suits a confident mariner who thrives in a dynamic harbour environment and takes pride in operating vessels with precision and care.

What You'll Bring

• At least 8 years' experience as a working skipper in restricted waters
• Proven capability handling and berthing twin-screw vessels.
• A strong understanding of vessel systems (operational, mechanical, electrical).
• Skipper Restricted Limits (or equivalent approved by Maritime NZ), with appropriate vessel size, speed, and passenger endorsements.
• Current medical, First Aid, and Duty Manager's certificates (or willingness to obtain Duty Manager's).
• A thorough knowledge of Wellington Harbour conditions – winds, tides, swells – and their impact on operations.
