Legal Counsel - Flexible Hours

Daifuku Oceania is a multi-national company seeking an Inhouse Legal Counsel with a New Zealand practice certificate for a position based in Rosedale, Auckland. We are fast-moving, highly performing and values based.

Operating as a trusted legal advisor, you’ll develop close relationships with internal and external stakeholders, operational and management teams in all Daifuku geographies, providing timely, high-quality, pragmatic and relevant legal advice.

Job Summary

This Legal Counsel position report to the General Counsel and supports the Daifuku Oceania business with timely, high-quality, commercially focused legal advice and legal services on a diverse range of day-to-day matters, ensuring that risk and commercials are well balanced, and all operations are compliant with relevant legislation. Daifuku Oceania operates mainly in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Middle East and Japan.

About the Role

This Legal Counsel position will take pride in delivering value to the organisation, gain a deeper understanding of the business drivers and use relevant legal knowledge and experience to advice, make good decisions and / or recommendations to the business. You will work closely with the General Counsel to support the business whilst developing a robust legal framework.

In addition, the role will review documents, contribute to contract negotiations and tender opportunities and work proactively with external partners to achieve economical resolution of disputes / adjudication / litigation and arbitration within Daifuku Oceania, and subsidiary companies.

About You

This position is based in our Rosedale office and is ideally suited for an experienced qualified professional seeking flexible hours.

• Tertiary qualification in law and a current NZ practicing certificate
• Minimum 8+ years PQE with broad commercial law experience
• Knowledge of construction and insurance law matters is advantageous
• Demonstrated experience reviewing contracts, identifying key issues for negotiation
• Strong commercial experience, business acumen and negotiation skills
• Sound understanding of contractual and commercial risks
• Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to manage internal client expectations
