As the Head of Campaigns and Communications, you will lead the strategic direction and delivery of all external communications for UNICEF Aotearoa. You’ll ensure our voice is consistent, compelling, and true to our mission, driving awareness, deepening engagement, and achieving powerful fundraising outcomes.
This senior leadership role oversees media and reputation management, digital and social content, campaign development and execution, ambassador engagement, and digital performance. You’ll be part of the Senior Leadership Team, shaping organisational strategy and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in fundraising and communications.
Responsibilities
Leading the organisation’s marketing, media, and communications strategy to grow awareness, engagement, and income.
Overseeing integrated, multi-channel campaigns that deliver measurable impact and align with UNICEF’s global mission.
Acting as Brand Guardian to ensure consistent, high-quality storytelling and strong brand recognition across all channels.
Managing ambassador and influencer engagement to strengthen UNICEF’s credibility and reach.
Providing strategic oversight of digital strategy, website optimisation, and paid digital activity to drive fundraising performance.
Supporting proactive media engagement and leading crisis communications and reputation management.
Driving UNICEF’s emergency appeal communications and ensuring effective donor and public updates.
Leading, developing, and inspiring a high-performing marketing and communications team.
Qualifications
8+ years’ senior experience in marketing, communications, or public relations — ideally within NGO, corporate, or media sectors.
Strong background in integrated campaign leadership, digital marketing, and media relations.
Proven ability to lead strategy, manage budgets, and deliver measurable outcomes across multiple channels.
Experience in crisis and reputation management and confident acting as a senior spokesperson.
Understanding of bicultural practice and a commitment to embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in your work.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
A genuine passion for advancing children’s rights and UNICEF’s humanitarian mission.
