- About the Role
- As Manager, Purchasing, you will lead the design and implementation of a world-class system for purchasing outsourced clinical services, ensuring sustainable, high-quality delivery across Aotearoa.
You will play a critical role in developing a consistent, nationwide approach to managing external purchasing relationships with private hospital providers.
This role combines strategic planning, operational delivery, and relationship management, working with clinical, finance, and regional teams to develop a ten-year service delivery pathway outsourced clinical services aligned to the Pae Ora vision.
You'll drive collaboration across internal and external partners to ensure Health New Zealand's provider delivery programme reflects best practice, supports equity, and advances the organisation's long-term service planning goals.
About the ServiceThis role sits within the Funding, Hospitals function of the Planning, Funding and Outcomes Directorate, reporting to the Group Manager, Public and Private Hospital Purchasing.You will lead a team of four and work closely with regional hospital leadership, clinical networks, procurement, and external purchasing agencies to ensure strong, enduring partnerships and consistent nationwide service delivery.
About youYou are a strategic and collaborative leader with extensive experience in purchasing, outsourcing, or production management within the health or social sector.You bring a deep understanding of service delivery systems and funding models, and you know how to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
You are comfortable leading change and innovation, fostering cross-agency collaboration, and embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and equity at the core of your work.You will bring :
A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.5–7 years' senior-level experience leading production, outsourcing, or provider management teams.Proven experience in developing long-term service delivery strategies and managing external partnerships.Strong knowledge of the health and social services landscape, including contract and funding frameworks.Demonstrated leadership and people management skills with a focus on building high-performing, inclusive teams.Excellent relationship management, negotiation, and influencing skills.A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and commitment to improving Maori health equity.Desirable experience includes large-scale procurement management, programme leadership, and familiarity with government funding and performance frameworks.Working at Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.We embrace a workforce that is diverse and inclusive so that we are better positioned to understand and service our community.
