The Company
This is a leading mechatronics organisation developing advanced robotics and automation solutions for the food and fibre sector.
Their products include rugged, hybrid autonomous vehicles designed to perform precision tasks in orchards and vineyards.
Built on modular platforms, these vehicles integrate advanced sensing, perception systems, and secure connectivity to deliver sustainable, high-tech solutions for growers worldwide.
The culture is practical, collaborative, and R&D-led, turning cutting-edge ideas into globally scalable products.
The Role
This is not a corporate LAN WAN Network Engineering role....
This role sits at the intersection of product engineering, mechatronics, and networking, where hardware and software meet to drive next-generation robotics.
The Network Engineer will work closely with mechatronic engineers to design the connectivity between bespoke hardware and control systems, ensuring each component communicates and performs seamlessly.
More than a traditional networking position, this is about embedding connectivity into products, working side by side with engineers in the lab and in the field.
You'll shape the way vehicles and devices interact, troubleshoot real-world deployments, and turn complex system challenges into practical, working solutions.
Success here requires not just designing wireless networking solutions, but also the ability to dive into scripting or configuration tasks in Python, Bash, or device-specific languages.
With a strong grounding in antenna design, roaming techniques, and protocol optimisation, you'll build the networks that let autonomous machines operate reliably in orchards, vineyards, and beyond.
It's an opportunity to combine hands-on technical rigour with innovative collaboration in a growing R&D-led organisation shaping the future of AgTech - Globally.
This is a product development role embedded through prototype, test, and deployment.
Building, configuring, validating, and continuously improving the networks that underpin next-generation mechatronic products.
Regular international travel is expected (including the US) and you'll need to sustain a high frequency of trips.
Hence a NZ Citizen is preferred in this case.
The Person We Seek
A natural collaborator, you will share methods and uplift capability across teams so knowledge doesn't sit in silos.
You may have a background in Mechatronics, or Electronic Engineering or even Mechanical Engineering.
You have a real affinity with getting hardware to work together and know your way around scripting and open source tools to get that to happen.
Engineer networks for devices and autonomous products in real-world conditions
Apply fast roaming techniques, zoning practices, antenna setup, and protocol expertise for seamless mobility
Embed practical network security across physical, data, and threat layers
Support field trials, secure deployments, Tier-3 debugging, and installation guidance
Share patterns, playbooks, and training to grow the organization's networking capability
Additional Skills
A hands-on network engineer with proven delivery in device / hardware environments (AgTech, Aviation, Robotics within Warehousing & Logistics, heavy industry or similar)
Demonstrable career designing and implementing fast roaming and zoning solutions where antenna placement and protocol optimisation; is required
Confident across Wi-Fi, VLANs, TCP / IP, and mobility management is key
Practical network security mindset—able to design and implement controls that work in the field
Collaborative, open, and keen to document and teach others (no silos).
Given the frequency of travel, we need candidates who are NZ Citizens and can secure multiple entry visa into key destinations across the globe - especially the USA.
Selection Criteria
Minimum, 3+ years' professional experience; relevant Engineering qualification
Certifications : CCNA and CCNP (desirable); CWNP (highly desirable)
Experience engineering and deploying networks for device or product based platforms in applied environments
Demonstrated ability to embed network security discipline in real-world designs
Advantageous : familiarity with UL / CE / FCC compliance; modelling / simulation tools
Technical contribution
You will apply network engineering to varied, complex problems with guidance from senior / principal engineers
Use common wireless / networking standards and methods (e.g., IEEE 802.x, VLANs, TCP / IP layering)
Configure routing, security, and core services (VPNs, OSPF, IP forwarding, DNS, DHCP, firewalls)
Ensure compliance with local / global regulatory requirements; implement and maintain wireless security practices
Document configurations, resolutions, and lessons learned for standardisation and knowledge transfer
Provide Tier-3 support with Service & Support to troubleshoot connectivity / performance and minimise downtime at customer sites
Deploy and configure Wi-Fi networks and base stations for multi-vehicle operations (mesh exposure welcome but not the emphasis)
The Remuneration
An attractive six figure base salary and benefits package is on offer.
Not to mention, frequent travel abroad is anticipated.
Make no mistake, this is one of the best Network Engineering roles we have had the good fortune to work on.
This organisation has a people culture like no other and with a commitment to your growth and development, you will only but enjoy your time within this genuine NZ Success Story.
