We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Intelligence Analyst to join the Analytics and Intelligence Operations Group (AIOG) based in PNHQ.

AIOG is a generalist team based in the National Intelligence Centre (NIC).

AIOG primarily provides support to national level decision-makers through the development of operational and strategic intelligence products and analysis that provides a deeper understanding of the criminal environment.

This position would suit an experienced Intelligence professional wanting to work in a dynamic environment and support the development of Intelligence capability across the team.

As a Senior Intelligence Analyst, you will demonstrate professional curiosity and adaptive approaches to using a range of structured analytic tools and methodologies to provide insight and foresight on a range of complex problems and issues.

You will use your advanced critical thinking and team-focused approach to coach others on best practice Intelligence tradecraft, to support team development, and foster a positive and productive team culture.

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, innovative, inquisitive, committed to excellence, resilient, and firmly focussed on enhancing decision-making within NZ Police through the provision of timely, accurate and relevant intelligence.

Key Accountabilities :

  • Proactively identify emerging or escalating trends in crime, crashes, and community reassurance.
  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking and apply analytical techniques to interpret information and data.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop a high standard of written reports / presentations and provide clear and concise verbal briefings appropriate to a range of audiences.
  • Lead and collaborate projects and group analysis.
  • Effectively manage competing priorities and demands to maintain quality of work under strict timeframes.
  • Develop and maintain a wide range of positive relationships (internal and external).
  • Work with limited supervision on complex analytical problems.
  • Provide technical guidance in Intelligence analysis tools and coach junior members of the team to develop their Intelligence tradecraft.
  • Lead by example with a committed, positive attitude towards teamwork and professional development.
  • Provide regular peer review and project coaching.
  • Assist in leading the development of people, products and processes.
  • Champion diverse worldviews, different perspectives, and the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, identifying opportunities to reflect these in Intelligence products.

  • Current CPK at the rank of the vacancy you are applying for (Constabulary only).
  • For both Constabulary & Police Employees :

  • Have qualified under CEP or a previous Career Progression Framework at the level you are applying for.

  • New Zealand or Australian citizenship, or a permanent New Zealand resident
  • You may occasionally be required to work outside of set work hours and alternative locations for operational reasons.

    Shift work may be required to meet operational demand.

  • Some domestic travel may be required.
  • This is an office-based role in Wellington.
  • This role is Individual Contributor / Emerging Leader level.

    Security Clearance Requirements

    To be eligible for this role, you may be asked to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.

    The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is :

    NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or :

  • A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, AND
  • A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years : Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, AND
  • Has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

    Utu a-tau | Salary

    This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $102,

  • dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
