Waikato District Council is looking for two Intermediate Consent Planners to join our Consents team.
We have one full time fixed term role available for 12 months and one permanent full time role; both 40 hours per week.

We have two planning positions which are vacant in the Subdivision and Land Use Consents teams.
These roles offer a broad and diverse scope of work.
Regardless of your primary team, you'll contribute to both areas, gaining exposure to the full planning process.
You will play a key role in assessing and processing a wide range of resource consent applications under the Resource Management Act (RMA).
The role also includes conducting site visits throughout the district and managing applications from initial assessment through to post-approval stages.
What I do?
Assess and report on a diverse range of resource consent applications that are at an intermediate / complex level as well as designations and notices of requirements.
Liaise with stakeholders, customers, Legal, Consents, Building Engineering and the wider organisation to provide expert planning advice that aligns with legislation and best practice.
Ensuring development aligns with planning regulations and reflects the needs of our growing communities.
Manage 223, 224 and clearance applications under the RMA and LGA.
Answer queries from internal and external customers sometimes on behalf of team leaders and / or managers.
Provide high quality planning advice and mentoring to other planners on matters of professional development and consistency.
Contribute to projects that are diverse, challenging, and integral to the sustainable development of our district.
Support enforceable consent conditions and proactively identify opportunities for process and customer satisfaction improvement.
What I bring?
Minimum of 3 years post graduate work experience under the RMA including local authority statutory planning.
Relevant tertiary qualification in Resource Management or a related field.
Eligibility to or member of the NZ Planning Institute.
Working knowledge key documents (e.g. District Plans, National Policy Statements, National Environmental Standards).
Current full NZ Driver's license.
Proactive and responsive Customer Service attitude with a focus on internal and external customer needs.
Have an understanding of te ao Maori and tikanga, with a desire to further explore te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ture Whaimana.
