About the Role
The primary role of a Combat Engineer is varied and exciting. Your purpose is to maintain the Army’s ability to move and manoeuvre on the battlefield without interference from hostile forces. The role requires expertise in explosives, bridge construction and demolition, field surveying, mine clearance, booby traps, explosives search, boating, water supply, tree felling, sawmill operation, minor construction, rigging, and small engines.

Training and Deployment
On base, time is spent on continuous training with the Army’s latest equipment and on exercises throughout New Zealand. You will also continue to train in infantry (rifleman) duties such as weapons, medical, and communications training.
When deployed, you will have the opportunity to apply the skills learned in training, including demining, construction of field defences, gap crossing, and demolition. Overseas RNZE personnel serve in small contingents around the globe, including Antarctica, Mozambique, USA, Australia, East Timor, South Pacific Islands, Bosnia, and Iraq.
