This role helps shape long-term investment direction and informs decision makers on how to achieve best medium- and long-term returns for New Zealand's investment in the land transport system, whilst ensuring long-term performance of the transport system.
The Principal Advisor will translate Government direction, NZTA Waka Kotahi strategy and land transport strategic plans into potential future transport investments; apply frameworks and tools to assess strategic investments and interpret frameworks to provide specialist insights and advice.
We are looking for an experienced advisor who will provide leadership in an evolving and innovative environment to build our long-term investment capability.
You will thrive in a work environment that is challenging but impactful and relish the reward of working in a team to shape a growing function within NZTA Waka Kotahi.
At a practical level, you will bring experience in working with infrastructure investment planning, be able to provide guidance and have experience in the development and interpretation of investment analysis into practical advice for senior leaders, executives and Board.You will have excellent communication skills that enable you to work across NZTA Waka Kotahi and with external stakeholders to influence investment outcomes.

Demonstrated expertise with government decision and policy making processesA significant level of understanding of New Zealand's planning and funding frameworks within local and central government and related investment planning and decision processesAn understanding of the New Zealand land transport system and its policy, investment, planning, and regulatory frameworksSignificant experience in leading, advising, and providing advice on investment planning analysis frameworks, and collateral to support medium to long-term investment planning decision makingStrong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and credibilityto help support the delivery of NZTA's investment planning function and influence investment outcomesExcellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to simplify complex concepts to senior staff and governors.
You will have experience in drafting papers and advice to governors such as boards and ministers.Good analytical, critical, and conceptual thinking using numerical and financial data in a complex environmentThe ability to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and resilience in an organic environmentQualifications :
A tertiary qualification preferable at the post graduate level in a related discipline or equivalent experienceYou will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Maori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Maori.
You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
