Job description

Shape the Future of Water Quality in Aotearoa

Join a long-standing New Zealand-owned company that’s at the forefront of water treatment technology. For decades, they’ve been designing, installing, and maintaining advanced water treatment systems across the country—serving councils, industrial clients, manufacturing sites, and more.

As the demand for clean water and sustainable infrastructure grows, this business is expanding its regional team—and they’re looking for a reliable, skilled technician to help deliver vital services to communities and industries alike.

What This Role Offers

This is a full-time, field-based position where you’ll cover the lower half of the North Island, travelling to different sites throughout the week.

You’ll be part of a close-knit and supportive service team, handling :

  • Installation and commissioning of small to large-scale water and wastewater treatment systems
  • Routine and reactive maintenance on treatment plants, pumps, filtration units, and control systems
  • Site inspections, diagnostics, and repairs for a range of industrial and municipal clients
  • Customer support – providing guidance on system operation and troubleshooting

No two days will be the same. You could be working on a dairy plant in the Wairarapa one day and servicing a council UV disinfection system the next.

Starting on a salary of $70-85k (depending skills / experience) + frequent performance / pay reviews as you complete training and gain experience. This role comes with a company vehicle and mobile.

What You’ll Bring

This role suits someone who enjoys autonomy, variety, and practical, hands-on work. You’ll need :

  • A background in mechanical or electrical maintenance (e.g. maintenance fitter, pump technician, diesel mechanic, electrician, or similar)
  • Strong fault-finding, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills
  • Good people skills – you’re comfortable dealing with clients on-site and representing the company professionally
  • A full NZ driver’s licence and the flexibility to travel throughout the lower North Island (some overnight travel may be required)
  • A willingness to learn and upskill – full training in water treatment processes and equipment is provided
  • If you have previous experience in the water, wastewater, or utilities sector, that’s a plus—but it’s not essential. Candidates from adjacent industries are encouraged to apply.

    Why Work Here?

This is a well-established business with an excellent industry reputation, offering more than just a job :

  • Long-term security – work with a company trusted by government and industry for decades
  • Career growth pathways – whether you want to specialise, lead a team, or move into project or technical sales, your development is supported
  • Autonomy and trust – manage your own schedule and workload, with a team that values independence and initiative
  • Investment in training – access to external qualifications, manufacturer certifications, and internal development programmes
  • Modern tools, vehicle, and gear – everything you need to do the job safely and efficiently
  • Supportive culture – down-to-earth leadership, approachable managers, and a collaborative environment where your work is valued
