In this role you will be responsible for supporting the implementation and delivery of the analytics and modelling programme within the Strategy, Growth & Planning Group.

The primary objective of this role is to assist in developing a robust evidence base and contribute to the successful delivery of the Council’s Urban Spatial Planning programme and the Commercial & Analytics programme.

Some Of The Key Responsibilities For This Role Include

  • Support and execute the organisation’s Analytics Strategy to achieve effective economic and data analysis, insights and reporting.
  • Support the cross‑functional analytics programme of work, including advanced economics modelling, statistical analysis and data projects that will provide the evidence basis for the urban spatial planning, for growth planning, and guide strategic decision making.
  • Support the Senior Economic Analyst on academic research and developing advanced econometric modelling.
  • Operate, maintain and interpret in‑house econometric and growth models.
  • Assist in developing robust, defensible insights that inform statutory obligations, policy development, and strategic decision‑making.
  • Deliver robust, defensible modelling results as evidence to support Council’s statutory obligations under RMA, NPSUD and related frameworks.
  • Examine, interpret and communicate results of analytical initiatives to stakeholders in operational, leadership and elected areas of the organisation.
  • Support the research, analysis and preparation of reports on economic trends and insights that can assist in driving economic growth in Hamilton.
  • Provide economic analysis and growth inputs to regional partners including Future Proof, Waikato Regional Council and IAWAI.
  • Reduce cost and reliance on external consultants by internalising core analytics functions and improving, transparency and turnaround times.
  • Gain professional development through mentoring, exposure to complex modelling frameworks, and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

Oo puumanawa me oo wheako | Your skills and experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with a background in economics and econometrics modelling with interest in the areas of urban and regional growth planning, public policy, and growth funding (essential).
  • A Bachelor's degree in Commerce or equivalent majoring in economics (or equivalent advanced degree with a strong focus on applied econometrics, urban and regional economics).
  • Economic research skills, preferably quantitative, utilising complex econometrics and statistical models. (essential)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Can demonstrate capabilities with complex formulae, pivot charts, and PowerQuery (essential).
  • Understanding of statistics and data reporting fundamentals (essential).
  • Experience with programming skills in R toolsets (or equivalent) (essential).
  • Understanding of machine learning and modern AI concepts (preferred).
  • Experience in SQL and database fundamentals (preferred).
  • Experience producing and publishing dashboards (PowerBI / Shiny) (preferred).
