The role
As Marketing and Brand Manager, you’ll be at the heart of a compact, cross‑functional team, working closely with high‑profile artists and internal teams to deliver brand and campaign activity year‑round. Reporting directly to the General Director, you’ll oversee the full scope of NZ Opera’s marketing strategy and activities, crafting and executing campaigns across advertising, digital, and communications.
Your regular duties will include :
- Developing and leading strategic marketing and communication plans aligned with NZ Opera’s goals
- Evolving and implementing brand guidelines, ensuring consistency and alignment with strategic objectives
- Overseeing all digital and traditional communication channels, including web, social media, email marketing, and print
- Driving compelling brand storytelling and ensuring creative consistency in copy, tone, and design
- Leading the creative process for advertising and communication campaigns, from concept to delivery
- Managing content strategies for owned and paid channels, including design, copywriting, video, and photography
- Formulating media strategies to maximise campaign ROI and achieve box office targets
- Collaborating with the General Director, Artistic Director, and other teams for season planning and campaign launches
- Leading and mentoring the Marketing Assistant, fostering professional growth and high engagement
- Analysing campaign performance, conducting market research, and reporting on key metrics to inform strategy
- Planning and managing the annual marketing budget, ensuring accuracy and adherence
- Representing NZ Opera marketing to the Board, senior leadership, and external partners as required
About you
We’re looking for someone with :
Minimum five years’ experience in marketing and advertising, ideally within a cultural or arts organisationStrong appreciation for the arts and operaProven ability to manage key stakeholder relationshipsExceptional content creation, storytelling, and creative skillsProficiency in digital tools and platforms (e.g., WordPress, Meta, Google, Email Marketing & Automation, Adobe Suite, Canva, CRM systems)Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skillsInitiative, creative thinking, and attention to detailAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines independentlyCollaborative, personable, and professional approachWillingness to work evenings and weekends for events as requiredWhy join NZ Opera?
