General Salary range D : from $100,934 to $135,076 (midpoint $118,005) per annum dependent upon skills and experience

About the Role - Korero mo te Turanga

As a Senior Business Analyst with the Fisheries Contracts Portfolio team, based in the Fisheries New Zealand (FNZ) Science & Information directorate, you will play a key part in ensuring that the operational functions within the directorate are delivered to a standard of excellence.

On a daily basis you will be providing business analysis, process, and advice to support the detailed design and implementation of a range of routine fisheries data and survey projects.

This role would suit a very experienced Business Analyst looking to step into a senior role or an existing Senior Business Analyst who is looking to expand their domain knowledge.

Key responsibilities will include :

  • Working with the directorate to identify and initiate the setting up of high performing technology-based business practices, ensuring that Science & Information have systems with the capability to deliver information and reporting requirements
  • Leading the analysis around the preparing and enhancing of current information systems to determine their fit for purpose and relevance to data required for operational delivery
  • About You - Mou

    As a successful candidate you will have 5+ years' experience as a business / technical Business Analyst.

    You will ideally have experience that includes :

  • The ability to work through complexities and present complex information in a way that can be easily understood by various internal and external audiences, both in the written word and verbally
  • Developing frameworks and tools for data and survey projects
  • Providing advice and recommendations based on intellectual rigour and in-depth analysis to internal and external stakeholders
  • Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships and effective collaborations with people at all levels within an organisation
  • The development of project documentation including project initiation or business cases
  • Prior government experience (would be advantageous)
  • A sound working knowledge of Lean & Design Thinking techniques and / or PRINCE2 Project Management
  • Delivering on projects according to tight / fixed deadlines, scope and cost
  • Demonstrated solutions focused thinking, getting up to speed quickly, being self-motivated and agile

    The Science and Information directorate is responsible for the planning, collection, verification and stewardship of all the fisheries data and information that underpins robust fisheries management decision making.

    There are 5 teams within the directorate; Stock Assessment, Aquatic Environment, Data Management, Fisheries Analytics and Contracts Portfolio.

    The Contracts Portfolio team is responsible for managing vendor relationships and contracts for Fisheries New Zealand's major service providers and research service provider.

    The team ensures FNZ is obtaining the best value from its major service providers and its research budget.

    In turn, the Science and Information directorate will be best positioned to support informed decision-making processes.
