Senior Associate, Climate Resilience

Opportunity

Be at the forefront of climate action in New Zealand and the Pacific by joining Beca’s national Strategic Advisory team, contributing to the provision of climate adaptation and risk consulting services throughout Beca. You will work with a passionate team providing climate‑change advice from high‑level corporate strategies through to practical tangible implementation across a vast array of projects. You will have the scope to utilise the vast and collective expertise developed over 100+ years within Beca across a multitude of disciplines, turning actions into reality and offering our clients end‑to‑end solutions like few others can.

As a Senior Associate – Climate Resilience, you will work in a complex and fast‑paced environment tackling climate change adaptation and climate risk. You will partner with clients, develop an understanding of their business, goals and objectives, and then provide robust and pragmatic solutions to shape a resilient future together. Our clients are spread across New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific and include local and central government, transport, water, energy and defence sectors.

In this role you will have a key leadership role within the Climate Resilience team, technically leading projects and coaching juniors, as well as leading data analysis, workshop facilitation and preparing reports. You will largely work with New Zealand and Pacific clients and will be expected to leverage your extensive existing network to pursue climate resilience work, grow our offering into new markets and geographies. You will be able to think analytically and holistically about broad outcomes, relate those areas to corporate, local and central government clients, translate complex issues into simple language, produce high‑quality outputs and deliver multi‑disciplinary projects. You will be part of our senior climate resilience specialist cohort, contributing to business strategy and testing new ideas and methodologies. You will be empowered to lead and execute delivery of risk assessments (using desktop risk management frameworks or spatial tools), adaptation plans (using a range of techniques including scenario planning and dynamic adaptive‑planning pathways) and development of innovative techniques, offerings, methodologies and services.

About You

Experience providing consulting or management services in climate change risk and / or adaptation will be important, or a background in a corporate or government role providing sustainability or climate change related services. You should be motivated and ready to grow your career, building on your knowledge, consulting and professional skills, and be looking to establish and build new and enduring relationships with clients. You should be excited by a challenge, able to work with ambiguity, and thrive in a growth‑focused business area that offers plenty of flexibility and variety.

Skills

  • Demonstrable technical experience in leading climate adaptation or climate risk initiatives in New Zealand or the Pacific (or another relevant market)
  • Credible, comfortable and effective in communicating your knowledge and expertise on climate change
  • Ability to engage with clients leading to successful pursuit, bidding and winning of project commissions, and experience in growing or developing a service offering
  • Recognised expertise and network within the New Zealand or Pacific market in climate change advisory
  • Willingness to travel within New Zealand and internationally periodically
  • Ability to lead and coach junior staff and work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, often remotely
  • Adaptability and versatility to the wide range of work, opportunities and projects
  • Ability to handle multiple workstreams or projects at the same time
  • Highly motivated, self‑directed, critically minded and a problem solver
  • Hold a relevant tertiary qualification across environmental science, engineering, planning, finance, economics, business, statistics, or other climate resilience related disciplines
