Hillmorton High School is a diverse urban coeducational school situated in the southwest of Christchurch.

It encompasses Y7 to 13 in dedicated middle and senior schools.

We have grown rapidly in recent years to a roll of around 1,400 and with further building works underway, the roll is expected to increase further.

We provide students with a caring and supportive environment, to help them achieve academic excellence, leadership skills and a love of learning.

Commencing term 1, 2026 our Health and PE Department are looking for a future focused, creative minded teacher with initiative and passion for this subject.

Please note, despite a full-time and part-time health and physical education position being advertised in the Gazette, there is only one position.

We are open to appointing either a full-time or part-time teacher, depending on the preference of the successful candidate and the hours required from the timetable in 2026.

Qualifications and experience

Applicants must have experience with NCEA, in particular the new Level 1 changes and the implementation of Matauranga Maori within the subject area.

Strong ability to develop positive relationships for learning.

Ability to teach outdoor education from Year 10–12 is desirable.

A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the understanding and ability to operate in culturally responsive ways, is essential.

Willing to contribute to our co-curricular programmes.

The successful applicant must be a NZ registered teacher.
