About the Awanui Labs Dunedin Anatomical Department
The Anatomical Pathology department has six registrars and eleven Anatomical Pathologists with various sub-specialty interests; all of whom are enthusiastic educators.
There is a structured Anatomical Pathology training program, run through the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA); with a designated pathologist trainee supervisor providing teaching and examination support.
Our teaching philosophy is based on learning through well-supervised experience within a highly supportive environment.
The department processes around fifty thousand histology, over two hundred thousand cervical cytology and fifteen thousand non-gynaecology cytology cases per annum.
As a provider for both hospital and community pathology services, there is a good mix of high complexity specimens and a high volume of community cases.
We run a daily FNA clinic and provide cytology training support for Awanui Wellington registrars.
We operate out of spacious modern offices in a dedicated Anatomical Pathology building which is close by Dunedin Hospital and the University of Otago.
You will have access to state-of-the-art, on-site diagnostic immunohistochemistry with highly competent histology technical staff and a comprehensive range of diagnostic molecular testing services.
