Head of Nursing
The Head of Nursing will lead Ara’s largest academic portfolio and oversee the delivery of high‑quality nursing education. The role ensures programmes align with national and international nursing standards, fostering academic excellence, professional integrity and strong industry connections.
As a faculty leadership team member the Head of Nursing maintains key relationships with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and other health sector stakeholders to meet accreditation requirements and industry expectations.
- Master’s degree in nursing or a health‑related field
- Registered Nurse holding a current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
Experience required
Significant experience in nursing, nursing education, academic leadership and qualification development in the New Zealand vocational education sectorStrong understanding of nursing accreditation and regulatory requirementsAbility to engage health sector stakeholders and build strategic partnershipsExperience leading teams, managing budgets and driving quality improvement initiativesCommitment to equity, inclusivity and the Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in education and healthcareFamiliarity with contemporary learning technologies, digital platforms and innovative teaching methodologiesExpertise in the oversight and implementation of projects and programmesUnderstanding of adult learning principles, assessment methodologies and quality assurance frameworksExperience developing and delivering high‑quality education products focused on equity and holistic assessmentStrong administrative and management skills for complex environmentsExperience fostering industry, community and iwi‑Māori partnershipsContinuous improvement mindset and technology literacyHealth and safety management knowledge and excellent report writing skillsApplications are received via the online application system.
