About The Role

We're delivering smart, sustainable growth for our city - and your leadership and technical expertise will be at the heart of it. As a Senior Development Engineer in our Planning, Environment & Sustainability group, you'll take a leading role in ensuring subdivision and development works meet the highest technical and environmental standards.

You'll provide expert engineering advice, peer review work from other engineers, and guide developers and consultants to achieve quality, compliant outcomes. Working closely with Wellington Water, Mana Whenua, and internal teams, you'll help shape the city's future through excellent design, collaboration and innovation.

You Will

  • Assess resource consent and engineering approval applications, providing expert input and direction
  • Peer review work by other Development Engineers to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Undertake inspections to confirm compliance with standards and consent conditions
  • Collaborate with Wellington Water, contractors, and Council teams to deliver great outcomes for the community
  • Lead initiatives to improve systems, processes, and guidance documentation
  • Champion innovation, sustainability and continuous improvement in development engineering practice

About You

You're an experienced and forward-thinking engineer who enjoys tackling complex development challenges and mentoring others. You combine strong technical capability with great communication and collaboration skills, and take pride in shaping a growing, sustainable city.

You Will Have

  • A recognised tertiary qualification in civil engineering or a related field
  • A detailed understanding of resource consent, engineering approval, and section 223 / 224c processes
  • In-depth knowledge of subdivision engineering and its connection to natural water systems and the three waters network
  • The ability to manage multiple projects through various phases of development
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly
  • A current driver's licence
