Te mahi tūranga - About the role

As a Recovery Advocate in the field of Mental Health and Addictions, your primary responsibility will be to provide empathetic, peer-based support to individuals struggling with mental health challenges and addiction issues. Drawing from your own lived experience of recovery, you will play a crucial role in fostering hope, empowerment, and healing among our clients. You will work as an integral part of our mental health and addictions team, contributing to the overall well-being and recovery of those we serve.

Lived experience of successfully navigating recovery from mental health challenges and addiction is a fundamental requirement.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients.

Empathetic, non-judgmental, and compassionate approach to supporting individuals in their recovery journey.

Knowledge of available mental health and addiction resources and treatment options.

Cultural competence and sensitivity to address the diverse needs of clients.

Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Willingness to continuously learn and stay updated on best practices in the field of mental health and addictions support.

Understanding and ability to work within the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Consent and undergo pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

Consent to being NZ Police and / or Justice vetted

Provide an up to date CV and cover letter detailing why you are interested in this role and the skills and experience you bring to the role

Previous experience and / or qualification in peer support work or a related field and / or;

Current First Aid Certificate
