Claims Consultant

We’re looking for a claims consultant who knows their stuff — and isn’t afraid to do things a little differently.

At initio, we’re a digital-first insurance provider, shaking up how insurance works for Kiwi homeowners and landlords. We’re not here to follow the old playbook — we’re here to make insurance simple, fast, and actually helpful.

As a claims consultant, you’ll play a key role in making that happen, taking ownership of complex claims, mentoring others, and helping shape our approach to claims across the business.

About the role

You’ll manage claims from start to finish, but you’ll also step up as a key decision-maker, mentor, and process improver. You’ll have a good depth of claims experience and a keen focus on customer service.

You’ll work closely with our Head of Claims and the wider team to make sure we’re delivering fair outcomes fast, and that our claims experience continues to be a reason customers choose — and stay with — initio.

This position is based in our office in central Hamilton.

Key responsibilities

• End-to-end management of home, contents, motor vehicle and landlord insurance claims
• Taking the lead on complex or high-value claims
• Making sound decisions based on reports, policy wording, and context
• Liaising with customers, builders, assessors, and suppliers
• Helping refine claims processes and system improvements
• Sharing insights across the business, particularly with underwriting and customer experience
