Job description

Awanui Labs – Ashburton seeks Trainee or Phlebotomist candidates to provide high-quality patient care in a casual role with variable hours.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing :

  • Collect blood samples and handle contained specimens (e.g., human blood, faeces, urine, tissue) from patients in community and hospital settings.
  • Work within the Patient Services Department to ensure samples are processed and tested in the medical laboratory.
  • Adhere to strict quality procedure guidelines in a methodical manner.
  • Collaborate with a supportive and professional team to deliver high-quality patient care.

About You

The company is looking for :

  • Ability to work methodically following strict quality procedures.
  • Customer focus with effective interpersonal skills to provide high-quality service to internal and external customers.
  • Sound knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory operations including safety, equipment operation, and practical experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Diploma in Applied Science or Bachelor of Science is an advantage but not essential.
  • Registration with the Medical Science Council and an Annual Practising Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Pre-Analytical Technician in Patient Services is desirable, but not essential.
  • Valid New Zealand full or restricted driver’s license.
  • Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
