The Opportunity

We are looking for two ComplianceOfficer – Biosecurity / Senior Compliance Officer – Biosecurity to join our EnvironmentalImplementation team on permanent, full-time, (37.5 hours per week) basis, inour busy Dunedin, Alexandra or Oamaru office(s). We welcome all skilllevels, both entry level and senior experience, with details covered below forwhat the team is after. In this role you will be play a key role in settingand upholding compliance expectations across the region.

The purpose of this position isto lead and deliver high quality, legally robust, and technically soundbiosecurity compliance services on behalf of the Otago Regional Council. Thisrole operates under the legislative framework of the Biosecurity Act 1993 andthe Otago Regional Pest Management Plan, with a clear mandate to uphold andenforce the Council's statutory responsibilities in a way that protects Otago'senvironment, biodiversity, economy and communities.

As a Compliance Officer –Biosecurity, you will be responsible for :

  • Undertaking inspections and assessing compliance inrelation to biosecurity
  • Collecting surveillance and monitoring data whileon compliance site visits
  • Encouraging compliance through the provision ofsound advice and information to the public
  • Supporting the development of collateral to beutilised for biosecurity advice
  • Supporting incursion responses where required

About You

Senior Compliance Officer – Biosecurity

Our ideal candidate will have :

  • A current full driver's license
  • At least 5 years' experience in data capture andanalysis, risk management, working in a regional council or regulatoryorganisation, mentoring colleagues and delivering compliance outcomes
  • Knowledge of pathways for biosecurity issues infreshwater, marine and terrestrial settings
  • Ability to translate technical information, rulesand policy into 'on the ground' solutions
  • Compliance Officer – Biosecurity

  • A tertiary qualification in an appropriatediscipline e.g. Environmental management, conversation, biosecurity
  • Experience in data capture
  • Well developed field skills, particularly withrespect to safe outdoor working practices
