Job description

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of a discreet, Bluetooth‑enabled wearable device designed to enhance personal safety for individuals on the move, such as runners and travelers. The project centers on building a functional prototype that connects to a mobile app, enabling features like real‑time alerts and location sharing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hardware prototyping for wearables or IoT, with a focus on low‑power, rechargeable solutions. The contract is for 6–8 weeks, with flexibility on the timeline and the potential for future collaboration. This is a chance to make a tangible impact on user safety and peace of mind.

Responsibilities

  • Define, design, and build a working prototype of a Bluetooth‑enabled wearable device
  • Integrate Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for seamless mobile app connectivity
  • Develop firmware to support simple user input and device functionality
  • Source and select appropriate hardware components for low‑power operation
  • Ensure the device is rechargeable and optimized for extended battery life
  • Collaborate on product design, referencing provided technical drawings and requirements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges throughout the prototyping process
  • Document development steps and provide recommendations for future iterations

Skills & Requirements

  • Proven experience in hardware engineering for wearables or IoT devices
  • Expertise in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) integration and firmware development
  • Strong understanding of low‑power circuit design and rechargeable battery systems
  • Ability to source and evaluate electronic components for prototyping
  • Proficiency with prototyping tools and platforms (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi, custom PCBs)
  • Portfolio demonstrating relevant projects in wearable technology or similar fields
  • Problem‑solving mindset and ability to work independently to meet project goals
  • Excellent communication skills for remote collaboration
  • Availability for a 6–8 week contract, with flexibility on schedule
