Makerspace Specialist
to lead programming and community engagement at Tuhura HIVE – our vibrant makerspace and sound studio located in the heart of Johnsonville Library at Waitohi Hub.
This is a dynamic hub where people of all ages come to explore, create, innovate, and connect through hands-on experiences with a wide range of maker technologies.

As the Library Makerspace Specialist, you'll be responsible for developing and supporting the delivery of innovative makerspace services at Johnsonville Library.
You'll lead the team's focus on understanding community needs and shaping programming in response to customer demand within Tuhura HIVE.
A key part of your role will be building the capability of library staff to deliver engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programming, both at Johnsonville and across the wider Wellington City Libraries network.
This is a permanent, full-time position, working 40 hours per week across the following schedule :
Sunday : 8 : 30am – 4.00pm
Monday to Thursday : 8 : 45am – 5.30pm

Plan and deliver a diverse range of STEAM programmes and events
Collaborate with Makerspace Coordinators to ensure smooth delivery
Work alongside Library Specialists to bring engaging content to life
Actively engage with customers and promote Makerspace offerings
Lead outreach to schools, community groups, and internal teams
Manage bookings and usage of the Makerspace and recording studio
Support staff capability through training and mentoring
Maintain equipment and ensure services run smoothly
Stay up to date with emerging technology trends to keep the Makerspace relevant and inspiring
N ga tohu me nga wheako | Qualifications and experience
You'll bring strong, demonstrable knowledge and experience, including at least four years working in a digital, STEAM or Maker environment.
Instructional or teaching experience is desirable, especially in a STEAM context and in leading staff to build technical capability.
Your digital literacy will include experience with a range of coding platforms, awareness of emerging technologies in the STEAM space, and familiarity with recording studio technologies.
You will be confident providing instruction in a technology-rich environment and have experience promoting services to external customers and community groups.
