The Role / Person
Demands on the Timaru District’s critical roading infrastructure are increasing, and maintaining our 1,700km network is a significant challenge for Timaru District Council!
We are now looking for a Road Network Operations Technician to join our Land Transport Group. This is a pivotal role at the centre of our Road Maintenance Contract, acting as the Engineer’s Representative and working closely with our contractor to deliver great outcomes for the community.
Success in the role comes from strong communication, collaborative working, and sound technical capability across fault identification, root-cause analysis, and maintenance treatments. You’ll be stepping into a well-supported and respected position within the team, with the chance to make your mark and build on proven systems and experience.
As a team, we pride ourselves on efficiency, innovation, and continuous improvement. This is demonstrated by our network consistently performing strongly against our peers for both quality and cost. This role is key to keeping it that way.
You’ll be a committed and adaptable team player who can work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, stakeholders, and the public. You’ll bring solid knowledge of engineering principles, road construction and maintenance, asset management (including RAMM), and contract management. You’ll ideally bring experience from the client side, with the ability to see the bigger picture behind maintenance decisions and delivery outcomes.
A relevant NZQA Level 6 qualification or equivalent experience is preferred, along with confidence using technology and a genuine drive to learn and improve.
