Join our dynamic team as an Advisor, where you’ll provide security response expertise to enable MBIE to achieve its business priorities, meet Government-mandated protective security requirements and achieve a high level of capability maturity.

The Advisor Security Events is a mature experienced security practitioner with a good understanding of all aspects of the New Zealand Government’s Protective Security Policy Framework, particularly :

  • Responding to security incidents, ensuring they are identified, reported, investigated and resolved;
  • Providing security advice to staff attending external conferences and other organised events; and
  • Building awareness of security with staff to strengthen security culture on site and at other work locations.
  • You will support the Head of Protective Security and the Chief Security Officer to ensure MBIE has robust and functional protective security processes that are fit for purpose and enable business groups to carry out their business activities safely and securely. You will work with lead / principal / senior advisors, people leaders and their teams, site security champions, facilities managers, and external venues to achieve this.

    You will regularly review incidents and events, and recommend improvements arising from lessons learnt, to ensure MBIEs physical security treatments remain in good working order.

    To be successful in this role you will have :

  • A good understanding of the Government’s Protective Security Requirements, particularly relating to physical security PHYSEC security zone one spaces, and security governance GOV4 and GOV6 .
  • Experience leading the response to everyday protective security incidents in a NZ government agency, working with the others to achieve a safe resolution.
  • Experience running or supporting security exercises or leading security drills to teach people how to respond during an incident.
  • Experience collaborating with others to write PHYSEC-related standard operating procedures.
  • Experience providing protective security awareness training, support and advice to staff attending external conferences and other organised events.
  • Experience presenting to teams to grow protective security requirements (PSR) awareness.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills – ability to quickly establish and build strong working relationships with people leaders and their teams.
  • The ability to identify lessons learned from events or incidents and recommend improvements.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a high level security clearance.

    For your application to be considered you must be a New Zealand citizen, OR a resident who has resided continuously in New Zealand for 10 years, OR a citizen of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom or the United States of America, and have resided continuously in one or more of these countries for the last 10 years.
