About the roles

The Specialist Mental Health Services at the WaitahaCanterbury has two very exciting opportunities for experienced Allied HealthProfessionals to advance their career into a senior leadership role as an Allied Health Consultant.

  • Adolescent Child and Family Service, SMHS - Full time, Permanent
  • Adult Community Service, SMHS - Full time, Parental leave cover fixed term until October 2026

    Child, Adolescent and Family (CAF) Service providescommunity and inpatient mental health services, including assessment, treatmentand education for young people up to the age of 18 and their whānau.

    The Adult Community Mental Health service providesassessment, treatment and support services to adults in the community within acase management model, including assessment and interventions for urgent orcrisis mental health needs.

    The role of the Allied Health Consultant is pivotal in the clinicaland strategic leadership of these services, which will see you at the forefrontof our service delivery, helping shape the way we operate through leading anddeveloping Allied Health Services that will sustain us well into the future.

    About You

    As an Allied Health Consultant, you will work in partnershipwith the Clinical Director, Nurse Consultant and the Service Manager of theservice to facilitate the ongoing development of mental health best practice, promote inter-disciplinary models of care and lead service improvements thatdeliver improved outcomes for consumers and their families / whānau.

    Reporting to the Director of Allied Health you will be partof the Allied Health Directorate, also working closely with the Allied HealthClinical Leaders, other Allied Health Consultants and Quality partner. The role is firmly focused on leadership within the services, however you willalso have strong clinical experience within your area of practice and will havean opportunity to utilise your clinical skills. You will be based atHillmorton Hospital but working with our regional Mental Health Services andacross the Waitaha Canterbury Health District.

    Your key responsibilities will include :

  • Providingday to day strategic leadership, in order to deliver a sustainable, highquality service that contributes to the achievement of organisationalgoals.
  • Providingclinical leadership for the Allied Health workforce with a focus onworkforce development, safe and high-quality care, outcomes focussedpractice and integration that support strategic development andorganisational priorities.
  • Supportingthe integration of research evidence into practice and the implementationof contemporary models of care;
  • Develop,maintain and evaluate organisational systems to facilitate delivery ofsafe, quality care;
  • Providingclinical expertise at an advanced practice level within a specialistclinical area, SMHS.
  • To be successful in this role you will have;

  • Experiencein a leadership role is an essential but support for professionaldevelopment will also be given;
  • Abilityto articulate a compelling vision for all Allied Health disciplines;
  • Advancedlevel of knowledge and clinical experience;
  • Experiencein leading improvement in service delivery and or practice development;
  • Strongprofessional networks and relationship skills;
  • AlliedHealth qualification and current Annual Practicing Certificate isessential;
  • Working at Health New Zealand
