Our team of experienced advisers at Te Huka Mātauraka, The Māori Centre empower tauiras to make informed decisions, explore diverse career options, navigate pathways with confidence, understand the evolving job market, and develop effective strategies to achieve their full potential. We provide counselling, mentoring, tuition, advocacy, study space and tautoko aroha to tauira Māori. In addition, Te Huka Mātauraka run large events such as Māori pre-graduations, Mana Pounamu, marketing events, and special projects as they arise.

The role | Te mahi

As Kaiwhakahaere Tari, you’ll be the welcoming, aroha-filled face of Te Huka Mātauraka, so a person who truly embodies the art of manaakitaka is essential. This role reflects the University’s commitment to tauira success in understanding Te Ao Māori, Hauora Māori, tikanga, and the local Māori context, as well as supporting tauira Māori achievement.

You’ll manage key administration tasks, including :

  • Monitoring and responding to Māori Centre emails.
  • Coordinating events.
  • Handling ordering and purchasing card processes.
  • Providing support to all Kaimahi as needed.
  • Your knowledge and understanding of te reo Māori me ōna tikaka, to the best of your ability, is important—along with the contribution you’ll make to our culture of whakawhanaukataka in the workplace.

    Ideally, you’ll have experience in a Māori-focused role, demonstrating strong cultural competency and the ability to build respectful, enduring relationships within the Māori community. You’ll be proactive, customer-focused, and skilled in administration, organisation, and time management. Other key skills required are :

  • A passion for delivering exceptional service
  • Ability to work in a busy administration environment and willingness to be adaptable and flexible.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to anticipate team needs.
  • An ongoing commitment to positive outcomes for our tauira, staff and visitors.
  • Dedication to working in a culturally safe and respectful manner and demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of Te Ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and Pasifika values.
  • Progress toward or attainment of Te Reo Māori certification is highly regarded.

    Divisional Services and Administration is a team of highly skilled professionals responsible for delivering outstanding tauira and staff experiences through high quality operational management and administrative support services. We are a strong supportive whakawhanaukataka (community) and are proud of the work we do as the largest workforce in the university, spanning every corner of the motu.

    This is a permanent, part-time position (26.25 hours), based in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.

    The appointment range for this role is level 5 $69,931 to $74,609 (Top of range $80,285).
