OverviewTararua College is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and student-focused guidance counsellor to join our dedicated pastoral care team.
Located in the heart of the Tararua district, our co-educational secondary school serves approximately 390 students from Y9–13.

About the roleAs our guidance counsellor, you will play a vital role in supporting the emotional, social, and mental wellbeing of our students.
You will work collaboratively with staff, whanau, and external agencies to provide high-quality counselling services and contribute to school-wide wellbeing initiatives.Key responsibilitiesProvide individual and group counselling to students across all year levels.Support students in managing personal, social, and academic challenges.Collaborate with teachers, deans, and senior leadership to promote student wellbeing.Maintain strong relationships with community and professional support services.Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality in all counselling practices.Our ideal candidateHold current membership or provisional status with NZAC (or equivalent).
Have proven experience working with adolescents, ideally in a school setting.Demonstrate cultural competency and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.Be empathetic, approachable, and able to build trust with young people.Be proactive in developing and implementing wellbeing programmes.Why join Tararua College?
