Electricity market modelling and analysisContribute to ensuring electricity system reliabilityInform policy, forecast electricity supply, and investigate system changesTranspower owns and operates the national grid, a critical utility that runs the full length of New Zealand from Kaikohe to Bluff.

As System Operator, we operate the wholesale electricity market and ensure supply (provided by generators) matches demand (by electricity users).

We are also responsible for ensuring New Zealand's electricity system is reliable, competitive, and innovative as we play an integral role in the planning of New Zealand's electricity future.About the teamThe Market Services group supports real-time delivery of the System Operator service, provides information to enable a market response to evolving conditions including risks to security of supply, procures specialist market products such as ancillary services and supports stakeholder engagement with the System Operator.

The group also contributes to market development initiatives and is responsible for System Operator strategy, performance, reporting and regulatory contract management.This is a great opportunity to join us and work in either Wellington or Hamilton office, in a complex, stimulating environment that provides a unique and essential service to Aotearoa New Zealand.

You will be joining a small collaborative and expert team who are integral to the power system's ability to keep the lights on for homes, business and communities across the motu.Taking on a key role in the team, you'll contribute to modelling and analysis of the electricity market.

Your work will help inform policy, forecast electricity supply, and investigate system changes that will enable new technology to be deployed across the power system.With no two days the same, you'll : Contribute to the modelling and analysis of the electricity market today and into the futureInform policy, forecast electricity supply, and investigate system changes that will enable new technology to be deployed across the power systemCommunicate the insights of your work to colleagues, senior staff and external stakeholders, enabling them to make informed decisionsDeliver effective analytical expertise and support, you will be able to prioritise work including projects, whilst demonstrating agility, flexibility and resilience in assessing often fluid situations that sometimes require answers at short noticeTo be considered, your CV and covering letter will demonstrate : Skilled in using Python and Power BIAbility to work with ambiguity and solve problems with missing informationGood troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent written and oral communication skills, including documentation skills and ability to present technical concepts in an easy-to-understand wayStrongly results-orientated with a proactive drive for improvementsAn inquisitive and analytical mindA bachelor's (or higher) degree in mathematics, science, engineering, economics, operations research or a related field is a requirement of the role.While not essential, knowledge of the New Zealand electricity or energy sector, familiarity working with complex systems that model electricity markets and / or comfort analysing and drawing insights from large data sets would be advantageous.Join us at TranspowerAotearoa is powered by the people who work here.
