About the Role

The role reports to the Senior Manager - Government Affairs and will work across the business to coordinate and execute the airport's government relations strategy.

We are seeking a person experienced in government affairs and public policy to support engagement with government entities and stakeholders.

This role requires a strategic thinker who can build and nurture key relationships, develop and deliver consistent messaging and support engagement with key stakeholders.

What you will be doing

You will support the coordination and management of government engagement, prepare high-quality briefing materials and draft submissions on key areas of government policy.

Leveraging your deep understanding of government and parliamentary processes, you will provide guidance to support effective decision-making and advance organisational objectives.

Your key responsibilities are :

Support the development and execution of the company's government affairs strategy

Provide monitoring, analysis, and interpretation of legislative and regulatory developments that impact Auckland Airport

Advocate for the company's positions on policy issues through direct engagement with government officials and agencies

Provide support to the Senior Manager – Government Affairs with engagement with Ministers and Members of Parliament

Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government representatives from central and local government across the political spectrum

Coordinate, influence and report on government relations internally across AKL

Organise and manage meetings, briefings, and events with government

Support to prepare position papers, policy briefs, and other documents to articulate the company's stance on key issues

What you'll bring to the role

To ensure your success in this role, you will need :

Bachelor's degree in political science, Public Administration, Communications, Economics.

Law, Business, or a related field or level of experience

3-5 years of experience working within the government sector; government affairs, industry organisations, public sector, public policy, public relations or related field

Strong understanding of the political process and how decisions are made across the public sector and within Parliament

Sound working knowledge of relevant policy, legal and regulatory frameworks in New Zealand

Strong stakeholder relationships and excellent relationship-building skills

Strong ability to write and craft messaging, including drafting submissions on policy and regulatory issues

Previous experience in a corporate government affairs role would be advantageous
