We are seeking a thought leader in risk-based regulatory practices and processes, risk identification and assessment, and applying regulatory risk practices to inform improvements in line with our regulatory stewardship role.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of high-quality risk assessments and issue analysis across Regulatory and the wider organisation.
• Build strong collaborative relationships to support regulatory stewardship.
• Produce high-quality summary findings, recommendations, and detailed reports to support strategic decision-making by senior leaders, the Executive, and the Board.
• Provide expert advice to senior leaders, including the Director of Land Transport, to support intelligence-led decision-making.

This is a rare opportunity for a risk-based practitioner to positively influence our Regulatory Risk framework.

It is expected the holder of this role will be privy to classified information from time to time and understands the New Zealand government’s classification system and how to maintain information in line with current policies and requirements.

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

The Regulatory Performance, Risk and Insights function ensures NZTA and the Director of Land Transport have a clear, evidence-based view of the land transport regulatory system’s performance, risks, and outcomes. The System Risk, Evidence and Insights team develops and integrates risk and evidence capabilities to support timely, targeted regulatory decisions aligned with strategic priorities.
