Are you a proactive public-sector professional with a passion for people and performance? We're looking for a Senior Adviser to support the Director of Recruitment, Leadership and Talent and their leadership team in delivering a high-impact programme of work that shapes the future of our organisation. Our mahi is all about ensuring we have safe, supported, capable staff thriving in their mahi across our four workforces.

This is a broad and dynamic role where you'll bring your business process expertise, insight, and people-focused mindset to help drive alignment, efficiency, and innovation across the group. The Senior Adviser will need to be able to balance long-term strategic work with staying reactive to critical, time-sensitive tasks that crop up in the day-to-day running of the function. Most importantly, you will support our Directors and SLT to focus on their most critical mahi.

What you'll be doing :

Your days will be varied and fast-paced. From presenting at a group forum, to responding to an OIA or pulling together information for a high-level report, you'll be at the heart of our work programme.

Key accountabilities include :

  • Supporting the Director and leadership team to deliver on their goals and maintain alignment across a complex programme of work.
  • Providing business management support, tools, and systems to enhance impact and efficiency.
  • Coordinating governance responsibilities, facilitating internal and external forums, and ensuring compliance with machinery of government practices.
  • Leading and contributing to a substantial programme of work, including launching new initiatives, shaping policy and procedures, and responding to strategic recommendations.
  • Supporting the group through transformation and change, with a new structure coming into effect for the group on October 6th.
  • Building strong relationships and networks across the organisation—influencing and identifying opportunities to collaborate.

This role is based at our National Offices in Wellington. While we do offer flexibility, candidates should expect to be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week—and up to 5 when required.

Ideally, you're currently operating at a Senior Adviser level in a public sector organisation, with experience supporting senior leadership teams or business groups. A background in business support combined with a passion for people and organisational development will set you up for success. Professionals with a mix of governance and operational experience in large organisations looking for their next challenge could also be a fit for this opportunity.

We\'re looking for :

  • A proactive and people-focused professional with business process skills and the ability to harness tools and technology to organise work and drive outcomes.
  • An engaging communicator who can connect senior stakeholders to strategy and translate vision into action.
  • A skilled facilitator who brings people together through forums, meetings, and engagement activities.
  • A quick thinker, with the ability to synthesise complex information from policy, reports, and governance papers to provide clear insights and advice. You\'ll be able to find the right subject matter experts to talk to when navigating our complex environment.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data, identify trends, and highlight risks and opportunities. Your attention to detail will keep our leadership team safe and supported, and you'll be tech-savvy and curious.
  • The ability to provide sound advice to both the leadership team and the wider business.
  • Someone who is curious and culturally competent, comfortable in an environment where te ao Māori approaches are at the heart of all we do.

    The midpoint of the salary range is $119,013 per annum and the full range (85%-120%) is $101,162 - $142,816 per annum. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
