Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children is a Ministry dedicated to supporting any child in New Zealand whose wellbeing is at significant risk of harm now, or in the future. We also work with young people who may have offended, or are likely to offend. We are currently looking for a Handyperson to join our team at Korowai Manaaki. This is a permanent role, Monday to Friday 40 hrs per week.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

In this busy and varied role, you will support health, safety, security and daily operations of the residence by providing a high‑quality and responsive buildings, grounds, property, plant, vehicle and resource support service. This will include booking in and escorting specialist trade contractors whilst on site; maintaining a safe and damage‑free environment with daily checks completed, data analysed, and reports prepared; carrying out allocated minor work to keep the site safe and tidy; and identifying and escalating property risks and issues.

• An understanding of health, safety and security
• Resilience, reliability, honesty and common-sense
• An ability to communicate professionally with a wide range of staff and stakeholders
• To be flexible and adaptable in your work practices
• Good computer literacy (Word, Excel and Outlook)
• A full clean New Zealand driver's licence
• To meet the Vulnerable Children’s Act safety checking and Ministry vetting requirements (this includes a full Police Check)
• To be fit and healthy – able to work outside and stand for most of the day if required (when escorting contractors and completing routine maintenance and grounds work)
