Principal Cloud Data Engineer

The role | Te tūnga
This role is critical to building secure, high-performing, and future-ready digital foundations for the decades to come. Join us to shape how New Zealand manages, protects, and shares its most valuable public data.As Principal Cloud Data Engineer, you will :
Lead the development of robust, automated, and secure data pipelines for streaming and batch workloads.
Design reusable frameworks, libraries, and patterns that enable productivity and reliability at scale.
Uplift engineering practice and work closely with architects, analysts, and governance leads.
Optimise performance, cost-efficiency, and observability of platform workloads.You'll need :
Deep technical experience with Spark, Delta Lake, and Azure Databricks.
Fluency in modern data engineering languages (Python, SQL), tooling (dbx, MLflow), and patterns.
Strong understanding of metadata, lineage, and data quality practices.
